If your looking  to escape the rat race, visit Stewart Island. One of New Zealand's most remote, and therefore least explored eco-tourism destinations. Stewart Island is the fourth largest national park in New Zealand, it boasts some 157000hectares that teem with wildlife.

With more than 700km of coastline, there are endless beaches to explore but if you tire of just relaxing on the pristine sands, try a spot of fishing, snorkeling or sea kayaking.

Location: Bottom of the south Island

Attractions: Rakiura Museum, fishing charters, hunting, spotting Kiwi birds and other bird life, only town Half moon Bay (Oban)
